PROMO BILLBOARD SHOOT

June 2013 marks the second staging of what was a thought of fundraiser event a year ago for a fashion journey to Guyana Model Search & Designers Portfolio by Grenadian designer Neisha La Touche of fashion label Silhouette by Neisha La Touche.

It was also an opportunity for young designers entering the fashion field to get their first chance of hitting the stage. What was a fundraiser event has now been seen as the best opportunity by the collaborative minds of Neisha La Touche and Miranda Hamid for designers locally to participate and showcase their work as we strive to build Grenada’s Fashion Industry and an avenue for regional designers to get a feel of the ‘Spice Isle’.

“I AM FASHION” will officially be stamped as an annual event with assistance from several entrepreneurs who has seen the need to assist in building a lucrative market.

This year we are creating a fashion event with a difference dubbed “I AM FASHION 2- STRUT THE RUNWAY” featuring 10 Local and Upcoming Designers & Boutiques, and Regional Designers from Jamaica, St. Vincent and Trinidad.

Special guests and surprises all night long.

Some grad portraits from last summer in Toronto with Mariya & Nataliya. (University of Toronto, 2012)

When it comes to TFP, model tests, & creatives.

Lets talk about:

What an agency standard model is.

A successful Editorial Fashion model you should:

  1. be between 14-19
  2. be between 5’9” and 6’ tall with long legs
  3. be thin, really thin. Something like 105-115 pounds
  4. Don’t have especially large breasts (34C is generally the upper bound of acceptable and 34B is preferred. Or not have lots of stretch marks, tattoos, piercings or highly tanned skin.
  5. Be beautiful. Not necessarily pretty, but beautiful.
  6. Have the right personality: a strong commitment to modeling, an ability to take rejection, a thick skin, not a lot of modesty, and a lot of self confidence
  7. Be willing to relocate to a major market
  8. Be willing to travel to strange locations with no friends there to support you, little money and little help.

*for the age- the 14-19 he quotes is for models hoping to get signed. So I’d assume they would still be working 5 years later so up to 24 or more.
